Elena Guadulupa Mata Celaya 91, of Burley passed away Sunday February 25, 2024 at Park View Care and Rehabilitation. She was born on December 12, 1932, in Perdas Negras Coahuila, Mexico. Lupe was the first born to Pura Nino and Eduaro Munoz. Lupe was raised by her loving grandparents, whom she loved very much.
Lupe married Epifanio Mata Sr. in 1974, at the age of fifteen. They had nine children, Ramon, Maria Delaluz, Epifanio Mata Jr., Candelario, Eduardo, Juan Jose, Luz Guadalupe, Teresa, and Estella Mata. Twenty-one grandchildren, and Twelve great grandchildren.
Lupe worked at JR Simplot, Ore-Ida Foods, Rolland Jones Potatoes, Max Herbold, and Kelly Bean. She was a very hard worker.
Sunday Lupe would spend the day preparing food for the upcoming week. She spent it listening to Spanish radio station while cooking beans and making fresh tortillas. The smell of toasted jalapenos and tomatoes for spicey salsa was wonderful.
Besides cooking, mom was very passionate about her flower. Everywhere she lived she planted lots of flowers, big sunflowers. She always had a bag with different seeds for every flower she had grown, this made her so happy.
Lupe was proceeded in death by her daughter Maria Delaluz, her sons Candelario, Eduardo, and Juan Jose. Her husband and father of her children Epifanio Mata Sr., grandson Erasmo Mata, and great grandson Joey Archuleta.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday March 5, 2024, with a Viewing one hour prior to the at Hansen Mortuary, Rupert, Idaho. Services will conclude with burial at the Rupert Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary.
