Christine Souza

Oct. 12, 1971 - Jul. 23, 2026

Date of Service: Jul. 31, 2026

RUPERT – On July 23, 2026, the world grew a little quieter, and a profound weight settled upon our souls. Christine "Christy" Souza, 54, from Rupert, Idaho was taken from us far too soon, leaving behind a legacy of fierce love, boundless compassion, and an unforgettable spark.

Born on October 12, 1971, in Turlock, California to Richard and Dixie Lee Souza, Christy grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and devoted family. She is survived by her loving significant other, Terry Draper; and her dear siblings: Ryk (Katrina), Kim (Chip), Tim (Melody), Mic (Jen), Sam, and Patt. She was a cherished aunt to nine nieces and five nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

After graduation from Minico High school in 1989, Christy took a job as a nanny in Maryland for three years. She would spend the next ten years working for City College Park Public work dept.
In 2001 she moved back west to be closer to family. She was employed at Heyburn Public Works at the time of her death.

Christy was a true ball of fire—a woman of strong mind, quick wit, and endless spunk. When an idea captured her imagination, her eyes would light up with a brilliant energy, and she pursued her goals with unwavering dedication and a tireless work ethic.

Her life's true calling was a deep, unconditional love for animals. Whenever a creature was in need of food, warmth, or a safe haven, Christy was always there. Though her intentions were always to find them good homes, she remained an incurable sucker for a pair of pleading eyes, earning a reputation as a sanctuary for the neglected and stray. She shared her home and heart with her faithful labradoodles—Blu, Tango, and Shadow—and dreamed of one day opening a full-fledged animal rescue to fulfill her lifelong passion.

In lieu of flowers, a bag of dog food donated to the nearest dog pound would be appreciated.

She has now been welcomed into eternal peace by her father, Richard; her nephew, Logan; her niece, Amiee; and her beloved dog, Blu. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, the fire she ignited in our hearts will never fade.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, located at 802 F. street, in Rupert, with Rev. Father Camilo Garcia as celebrant.

From Mary McGinnis:
As a friend & neighbor in the country near Christy I can attest to her great compassion for our 4-legged friends. I
once found an abandoned newborn kitten
on my property. As I had to leave for a job Christy came down with a small baby doll bottle to feed her and a stuffed animal to comfort her for the next few days till I found a home for her. That was the heart & soul of Christy. (She was pretty good to us 2- legged critters, too.) Now she has joined her dad & other loved ones in the great beyond. I will truly miss your smile and laugh Christy. Till we meet again-
Mary Mc
From Terry Draper :
