RUPERT – Rosemary Gallegos Mort, age 78, of Rupert, passed away in her home surrounded by her family and loved ones on, Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
Rosemary was born February 5,1948, in Eugene, Oregon, to John Sr. and Lala Gallegos. She was one of sixteen brothers and sisters. She lived most of her life in Rupert, Idaho. She married Jerry Cantu at the young age of sixteen in 1964, They were married for 25 years and had four children together: three sons, Ronnie, Jerry Jr.,and Tommy Cantu, and one daughter, Mona Cantu, they later divorced. She then married Orville Glenn Mort in 1989. They had a loving marriage for 37 years, where she gained eight daughters, Sylvia, Angie, Sabrina, Sara, Selena, Anna, Melissa, and Jolene.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lala Gallegos; her son, Tommy Ray Cantu; her brothers, Tony, Lee, John Jr., Michael, and baby George Gallegos, her sister, Genevieve Martinez; and one grandson, Dakota Cantu.
She is survived by her loving husband, Orville; her four children; and eight stepchildren; her four sisters, Rae, Dee, Anna, Lilly, and her five brothers, Manuel, Henry, George, Gilbert, and Andy Gallegos; as well as many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2p.m. Friday, May 29, at Grace Church, located at 100 N. Meridian, in Rupert, with Pastor Travis Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Rupert Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Hansen Mortuary located at 710 6th Street in Rupert, and from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the church.
After the graveside service there will be a luncheon to celebrate the life of Rosemary Gallegos Mort, at Neptune Park located at 302 S. F St. in Rupert, Idaho 83350. We ask everyone who is planning on attending to bring your favorite side dish, and lawn chairs.
