Oneita Burgess

Aug. 24, 1925 - Jun. 3, 2018

Date of Service: Jun. 14, 2018

In the early morning of June 3rd, 2018 Oneita May Robinson Burgess passed into the arms of Jesus and all of her family in Heaven. Mom was born in Fairfield Township on the outskirts of Adrian Michigan to Oren D Robinson and Bessie May Gephart Robinson. She was the fourth girl of six children to bless this family. As a young child, Grandpa paid for voice and piano lessons for her. She had a beautiful voice and recently shared with us memories of her favorite recital. The song she played and sang was “A Little Pink Rose”. This recital was her favorite because Grandpa was able to attend.

Oneita married Al Burgess on April 14, 1943 in Toledo Ohio. She and Dad traveled all over the United States working hard for every penny and never met a stranger. Mom and Dad were an amazing duo. They danced on roller skates and taught lessons to many others. Al had three children prior to their union; Deloris (Dee), Milton (Lee), and LeRoy.
Mom was not afraid to work. She was alongside Dad painting many a smokestack strapped high off the ground in a bosun chair, working horses at a dude ranch, working harvests, and managing a trailer park for 40 years until her health forced her to retire.

In August of 1952 they welcomed Wilma May in Minneapolis Minnesota. This added joy to both of them as they now had another traveling partner on their journey. Their travels continued until one day they broke down on the side of the road at the Bortz farm in Malta Idaho. The Bortz family welcomed them letting them park their trailer and providing them with their first job in Idaho. The Bortz family instantly became our family. Mom also worked for many people in the Mini-Cassia area making their homes beautiful. In October 1964 Lisa Kay was born in Rupert, Idaho. This was quite the surprise since there are 12 years between their girls.
She loved her relationship with her Lord and Savior and helped many of her family with their decision to bring Christ into their hearts. She was most proud of her family that grew from just a few to many. Her last request was “to keep this family together”.

She is survived by her daughters Wilma (John) Paul of Burley, Lisa (Bill) Sibbett of Paul as well as Dee (Terry) Brenner of Juneau, Alaska and Lee Burgess of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She had many grands but shared her love and opinions most with John, Mindy, Cody, Lacey, and Aaron as well as her greats Kylie, Jayden, Emily, Kayla, Katie, Noah, Logan, Isaac, Hudson, Adyson, Jordan, and baby Bean arriving this fall. She was preceded in death by her husband Al on September 27, 1976, her parents, grandparents, all of her siblings, and step-son LeRoy. No doubt they were all there to help her on her journey home.

Graveside services will be held on June 14th 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rupert Cemetery under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary, Rupert Idaho.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Tyson Steel, the staff at Minidoka Memorial Hospital, Countryside Care & Rehab, and Highland Estates for making Moms last days comfortable. We would also like to thank the staff at Hansen Mortuary for their care and dedication.

I was adopted out of the Burgess family in 1952 at age 4. At age 53 found birth family that tied me back to the Burgess side. I’m always looking for related Burgess and with the help from a found family member I was informed of her walking on. She has many friends and family helping her make that final transition with love and smiles. I’ll miss Her.

Dear Family
What hope we have knowing that Oneita is now Home with her Savior. Thank You Lord for making that possible! I'm grateful to know I will have a chance to get to know her when I too pass over into Eternity. May her whole family receive Comfort knowing that Oneita is a Daughter of The King. That she has completed her earthly work and will now receive her rewards. Thank You Jesus
