Byron Bruce Jensen

Dec. 14, 1949 - Dec. 20, 2017

Date of Service: Jan. 6, 2018

Byron Bruce Jensen known to all as “BJ” 68 of Heyburn formally of Rupert passed away at his home on December 20, 2017.

BJ was born on December 14, 1949 in Rupert, Idaho to Raymond and Roma (Bywater) Jensen. He graduated from Minico High School in 1969 and received certifications as Mechanic and Electrician.

He married Marjorie Priest of Rupert in 1969 and they were later divorced. From their union they had 2 children, Heather (Wes) Andersen of Burley, Justin Jensen of Heyburn and later in his life had a daughter Jessica (Sean) Thomas of St. Robert, Missouri. BJ has 4 grandchildren Dylan Gage of Paul, Mackenzie Gage of Rupert and Aiden and Makayla Smith of St. Robert, Missouri, 2 great grandchildren Bentley of Paul and Davin of Rupert. And last but not least his beloved grand dogs Payslee, Charlie, Sadie and Molly.

Over the years BJ worked various jobs but was ultimately permanently employed as an electrician at Amalgamated Sugar Company for 30 years and retired from in 2005.

Upon his retirement BJ went on to build BJ’s Sports Tavern in Heyburn/Burley, a lifelong dream of his, where he ran it for 11 years before his death.
Some of the things BJ enjoyed over the years was playing and coaching baseball, traveling, golfing, hanging out with his lifelong friends, watching his BSU Broncos, 49ers, and Jazz games, but most importantly he cherished the time he was able to spend with his family.

His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were everything to him. Everything he did, he did for them and was very proud of all their accomplishments thru out their lives. He left a legacy with the bar he built and the numerous bonds with his customers and staff over the years. He’d always say “He had the best crew in town.”

He was best known for all his corky sayings and his very direct, sometimes grouchy approach with people “his bark was worse than his bite” and was the most endearing thing people loved about him.

His heart was enormous and he will be forever greatly missed by everyone that he came in contact with throughout his life.

BJ was preceeded in death by both his parents, 2 sisters, 1 brother and his beloved dog Buffy.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the Rupert Elks with a wake to follow at BJ’s Sports Tavern in Heyburn. Services are under the direction of Joel Heward Hansen Mortuary,

In lieu of flowers we ask for donations to be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. www.firefighterstairclimb.org under the name of Justin Jensen or to your other favorite charity.

Byron and I went to grade school together. I had polio and wore heavy metal braces and had a difficult time running. When we would go outside to play baseball, I would hit and Byron ran for me. I never asked him he just did it. I never forgot that kindness and have often thought about him over the years. I would have loved to say "thank you" once again. It sounds like he was a good man and lived a good, productive life. I know you will miss him but have many wonderful memories. I pray you will feel God's presence and comfort during this time.
