Shirley Ann
Corbett
Oct. 28, 1936 - Aug. 11, 2026
Date of Service: Aug. 18, 2026
BURLEY – Shirley Ann Corbett, age 89, of Burley, and formerly of Rupert, passed away surrounded by family Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2026, at Highland Estates in Burley.
Shirley was born on October 28, 1936, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Oda Lee Wisdom and Audrey Elsie Totherow. She was later adopted by her stepfather, Walter “Walt” Raymond Cramblit. Over the years, she called many places home, including Oklahoma, Arizona, Oregon, Wyoming, Texas, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Connecticut and spent the majority of her life in Idaho where she lived for more than 50 years.
Shirley graduated high school in Oregon in 1954 and immediately joined the United States Air Force, following the footsteps of both her father Walt and her older sister June. While in the service, she found love with Billie Jean (Bill) Moore and was married for a couple of years. This marriage ended amicably and shortly later she met the love of her life James (Jim) Henry Corbett, a friend of her father’s, and they married in 1960. She loved her job at Eddie’s bakery, where she worked for several decades before retiring at age 60. In retirement, she enjoyed many years of volunteering as a “Pink Lady” at Minidoka Memorial Hospital.
Shirley was a devoted mother of five children: James “Jimmy” Henry Corbett Jr., Gerald “Gerry” Dennis Corbett, Michael “Mickey” Ruel Corbett, Kimberly “Kim” June Corbett Terry, and Robin Maureen Corbett. She leaves behind ten grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Shirley also remained close to her siblings, Bobby June Kimberly Cramblit, Ruth Audrey Cramblit, Dorothy “Dori” Lillian Cramblit, and Ralph Raymond Cramblit throughout her life. Her family was one of her greatest sources of joy and meaning in her life.
Shirley knew how to enjoy life. She loved to line dance, read, work on puzzles, care for her plants, and keep her home just so. She enjoyed good food, back scratches, and traveling—particularly cruises with her beloved sister June. She was practical and easy-going, optimistic and insightful, patient and reliable, but perhaps most of all, she was loving and fiercely independent.
Shirley was a survivor in every sense of the word. She overcame breast cancer, survived a brain aneurysm, endured a serious hand injury, and survived a rollover automobile crash. She also tragically lost her husband Jim at the young age of 56 in 1990 after just 30 years married. Her life was not without hardship, but Shirley met challenges with a determination and resilience that became one of the defining qualities of her life.
Those who knew Shirley will remember her not simply for the things she survived or the places she lived, but for the person she was insightful, optimistic, independent, practical, patient, and deeply loving. She was a woman of deep faith, and a devout Lutheran. She believed in showing up for others, being responsible, helping where she could, and treating people with generosity and kindness. She was a great friend and someone who could make ordinary moments memorable.
Shirley leaves behind a legacy of resilience, faith, service, simplicity, responsibility, independence, kindness, and family. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave and the lessons she taught will continue in the family who carry her memory forward. She is now reunited in heaven with her husband Jim; her sister June; her parents Audrey and Walt; and her two sons, Jimmy and Gerry.
Her family shares gratitude on her behalf for all those who supported in her care over the last five years. Shirley was surrounded by a dedicated team of doctors and caregivers, and the family would like to give special thanks to Pomerelle Place, Highland Estates and Parkview for treating her like family and ensuring she felt at home in her final years. Their love and support was appreciated by the family.
May she rest in peace.
