Garey E. McManus

Oct. 19, 1953 - Apr. 17, 2017

Date of Service: Apr. 21, 2017

Garey McManus, 63, of Paul, ID, passed away April 17, 2017 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Twin Falls, ID surrounded by his loving family.

Garey was born October 19, 1953 in Burns, OR to Bill and Betty. He attended schools in Oregon and Idaho and graduated from Minico High School. He attended the College of Southern Idaho, graduating as a certified welder. He worked at the Amalgamated Sugar Factory for 37 years before retiring in 2016. He married his high school sweetheart on May 5th, 1972. They were looking forward to celebrating 45 years together this spring. The couple had two children, Melanie and Mike.

Garey’s whole life was his family. He worked hard at everything he did so he could provide for them. Garey built McBo’s Carwash and Desert Rose Storage in Paul. He enjoyed fixing and building things. His latest projects included building log furniture for his cabin in Island Park. Island Park was his favorite place to spend time with family and friends. He enjoyed riding snowmobiles there in the winter and their side-by-side in the summer. He loved riding trials motorcycles and going fishing.

He was the biggest supporter of his grandchildren, always taking time to teach them new things and to attend their sporting events. He recently helped Kolton build a shed, taught Kylee how to weld, and helped Peyton build a rocking chair. His strong work ethic and dedication are traits that his family will take with them forever.

He was a walking miracle, surviving a bone marrow transplant 12 years ago, but his life was cut short by complications from his appendix. Garey is survived by his wife, Karen of Paul; two children, daughter Melanie (Bob Saleen) McManus of Paul, son Mike (Katie) McManus of Paul; three grandchildren, Kolton Higgins, Kylee McManus, and Peyton McManus, all of Paul; a brother, Bill (Linda) McManus of New Meadows; two sisters, Cheryl Olsen of Boise,Shannon (Mike) Gorringe of Boise, and mother-in-law Frances Klamm of Paul. He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Buttars, step-father Ralph Buttars, father Bill McManus, father-in-law John Klamm, and a special uncle, Henry Klamm.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Paul United Methodist Church with Pastor Manuel Vela officiating. . Viewing for family and friends will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Hansen Mortuary and for one hour prior to the services at the church. Services will conclude with burial in the Paul Cemetery.

Friends who wish to make memorials may do so to a college fund that has been set up at DL Evans Bank in Rupert for Kolton, Kylee, and Peyton, the joys of his life.
